Clearing the Video Gamer Stereotypes

Video game aficionados who play for hours continuously may suffer health problems eventually. But this doesn’t mean they are hermitlike lonely nerds with low social skills. Perhaps you have this stereotype in mind that they are but it turns out that most people qualified as gaming addicts don’t suit that label at all.

An Australian study found out that of the 15% adults who qualify as problem gamers – those who play video games 50 hours or more every week – only 1% appeared to have poor social skills particularly shyness and low self-esteem. The findings strongly propose that social problems are not associated to gaming and that they don’t drive people to play video games. Also, the study discovered that those who have obsession with gaming are more likely the ones who play MMORPGs such as Ultima Online and World of Warcraft.
